Subject: two fics games and strange opponent's decisions

Here are two games played at FICS with my rewritten (and still weak) engine
against another comp; for both games I feared it would lose, but it managed to
win a game and draw the other.

[D] 3b2k1/pp3p1p/6pP/5p2/r4P2/4P3/5RPK/3N4 w - - 0 42

I thought Black would have no problems to win this, but Black did not find a way
to win, and even lost this ending:

42.Rd2 Ba5 43.Rd7 Rb4 44.Nc3 Kf8 45.Nd5 Rb3 46.Nf6 Rb6 47.Nxh7+ Ke8 48.Rd3 Ke7
49.Ng5 Rc6 50.h7 Rc8 51.Rd5 Bc3 52.Rd3 Bh8 53.Ra3 a6 54.Rb3 Rc7 55.Rb6 Ke8
56.Kg3 Re7 57.Kf2 Kd8 58.Nf3 f6 59.Nh4 Rxh7 60.Nxg6 Kc7 61.Re6 Bg7 62.Re7+ Kc6
63.Rf7 Kd6 64.Rxb7 Kc6 65.Ra7 a5 66.Nf8 Bxf8 67.Rxh7

[D] 5b2/7R/2k2p2/p4p2/5P2/4P3/5KP1/8 b - - 0 67

Here, I think Black should still have drawing chances.

67... Bb4 68.Rh5 a4 69.Ke2 a3 70.Kd3 Kd7 71.Kc4 Bd2 72.Rh7+ Kd6 73.Rh6 Ke7
74.Rh1 Kf7 75.Ra1 Bxe3 76.g3 Bf2 77.Rxa3 Ke6 78.Rd3 Ba7 79.Rd2 Bg1 80.Rg2 Ba7
81.Re2+ Kd6 82.Rd2+ Ke6 83.Kb5 Bg1 84.Kc6 Kf7 85.Kd5 Bb6 86.Rb2 Be3 87.Rb7+ Kg6
88.Ke6 Bf2 89.Rb1 Bc5 90.Rb5 Bg1 91.Rxf5 Bd4 92.g4 Bb2 93.g5 fxg5 94.Rxg5+ Kh6
95.Rg2 Ba3 96.f5 Bf8 97.f6 Kh7 98.Rg3 Kh6 99.Kf5 Kh7 100.Rg1 Bb4 101.Rh1+ Kg8
102.Kg6 Bd2 103.Ra1 Bh6 104.Ra8+ Bf8 105.f7+ Kh8 106.Rxf8# 1-0

I wonder if the task for Black was really so difficult? Also my engine showed a
clearly negative evaluation, but I cannot find the decisive mistake(s) by Black.

In the other game, this position arose:
[D] 7r/8/2p1n3/1p1k2p1/5p2/1PR4P/5PKP/5B2 b - - 0 45

How to estimate this position? Black’s king is in the centre and White has a
doubled pawn, but IMO the bishop is more powerful than the knight.

Some moves later, White forced a draw by repetition, resp. my engine accepted
the draw as it saw an advantage for White. Does Black have any treats which
caused White to force a repetition?

[D] r7/8/2p4R/1p2k3/1P1nBp1p/5P2/5K1P/8 w - - 8 65

Any feedback is welcome.

Regards
Rafael B. Andrist
