Here is an example of a fortress wall which must surely strike us as fantastic. The position below was studied by W. E. Rudolph in 1912. It is true that if a player who has material disadvantage cannot win a game, he or she tries to get a draw at all cost. I hope an improved knowledge-based Shredder7 or Hiarcs9 can understand that if it which has material disadvantage cannot win a game, it tries very hard *strategically* to close gradually the position so that Black will become unable to win and the game draws. Can Shredder7 or Hiarcs9 solve successfully the position below? I am interested to know. The best move is 1.Ba4+! (White to move) The continued line as follows: 1.Ba4+! Kxa4 2.b3+ Kb5 3.c4+ Kc6 4.d5+ Kd7 5.e6+ Kxd8 6.f5 and draws. [D]3B4/1r2p3/r2p1p2/bkp1P1p1/1p1P1PPp/p1P4P/PP1K4/3B4 w - - 0 1
