Sapphire II is just a portable chess computer with no board or pieces, but it can be hooked up to a PC or sensor board Just depends on your tastes and how you want to use your chess computers for. Diamond II is more expensive, that is because it is a complete unit with board and pieces attached to the computer Best to see the pics on the site I suggested or on the other sites given by other replies and you we see the difference. I would go for the Diamond II if I was gong to only use it at home or some place where I could set up the board, Sahppire II you can take with you and even use a magnetic board to play when out and about. or connected to sensor board, and both can connect to a PC
