The Centrino notebooks have been reported to perform quite well for chess
programs. For a comparison, a 1.3 GHz Centrino runs Ruffian at close to 1Mnps,
while my Athlon 2GHz runs Ruffian at about 1.2Mnps. I believe they have 1.5GHz
or maybe even 1.7GHz Centrinos out now. The Centrino is also supposed to have a
longer battery life than other mobile processors. I would definitely consider a
Centrino if I were going to get a laptop for chess programs.
