What I was talking about were engines like Shredder that come with a UCI version
that allows me to use it in other interfaces, not GUIs that support UCI.

I didn't put anything down because it costs money, and I'm not writing anyone
off. If Chess Academy has a better product, I'll buy from them.

My point is, there has to be something to set a chess program apart from others.
There are so many good ones that just being good isn't enough, at least to me
(unless it is clearly superior to all others). Do you think Chessmaster is the
#1 seller because it has the strongest engine?

When it comes to playing strength, there is a log jam at the top, and if one
product offers me something that I will use, like a UCI version of the engine,
I'll lean towards buying that one.
