Since you asked, Russ. I think ChessMaster is the number-one seller because over the years they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for shelve space and product placement in MegaStores before Christmas, as few companies can afford to do. I seem to recall there was a time when a spot on a shelve at CompUSA only cost about 20 grand per store--- and they were the only chess product there. Contemporaneously, Fritz was selling for about 90 bucks back then-- and I am sure that had something to do with it too.
