I had the same symptoms, and it was because I was still using the original CD
version of Shredder 7 from Nov 2002. It can't handle large RAM. Check in our
Help menu, About Shredder 7 - the latest version is March 5, 2003. If that's
also your situation, then you need to get the update by opening an account at
the Playchess.com server, login (you MUST be logged in), then enter the product
code from the front page of your Shredder 7 manual. It should then offer you an
immediate download of the upgrade. It fixes the big RAM bug as well as several
other things.
