He has a good discussion, in his Chapter 6 "Computer-Assisted Analysis," where he shows a way to use chess engines to raise the bar on one's own analysis. In the scenario he describes, he is very much in control and is doing the real thinking. He just uses the computer to supplement his own analysis, taking advantage of the chess computer's superior tactical evaluation capabilities. He shows how "advanced chess" can be personally rewarding, as opposed to "just watching your computer play." I hope I don't catch any flack from the anti-computer folks for my implied endorsement of "advanced chess." : ) Bob D.
