Are you sure you don't need a modem? Sometimes DSL or cable-modem is down. Fill up all four banks with 512 MB modules since: - it will give you 2GB instead of just 1 - you do not have to upgrade already end of 2004 - you will then already know that the system works stable with all memory slots filled. (I had an ASUS board that I could not upgrade since the only free memory slot caused problems. Something I did not know when I purchased the board. Of course, you could always replace broken parts. But this is really annoying trying to trace the problem and then replace the parts.) Futher: - Take the 3 years warranty - Buy the HP DVD+R/RW drive - Unless you really want to use ZIP disks, you can skip this drive. For "emergencies" you have a floppy. - Add the rush-fee to get your system before Christmas. - Add a second harddisk drive! 2 times 80 is better than 1x 160. Head-motion slows down the system significantly. You want to have your swap on a separate drive from your data. Don't you want to wait until you get a real 64-bit system with 64-bit OS and 64-bit applications? Do you know that AMD will move their chip production to a new 90nm process as early as Q2 in 04?
