I've tested H9 against H8 in 4 engine matches. These were all blitz games @ 4+2. Hiarcs 9 did _poorly_ using its own book against Hiarcs 8 using its tournament book. It lost with 10 W 18 L 22 D! When they both used the H9 native book, H9 did only marginally better then H8, and the same held true when H9 used the H8 Tour. book against H8 using the H9 book. Then they both used the H8 Tour. book and again H9 did only slightly better. Conclusion after 200 games, H9 @ Blitz is _no_ stronger then H8! No real rating gain...this is truly a disappointment, as I expected no less then a 50 pt. gain. Then I did one last match, same time controls, 50 games, using the H8 Tour. book and played it against Hiarcs 8 Bareev, using the H8 Tour., and to my surprise Hiarcs 8 Bareev won with a score of 19 W 9 L 22 D! IMO, at least at blitz, Hiarcs 8 Bareev is at least 50 pts. stronger than Hiarcs 8, while Hiarcs 9 failed to live up to its (my) expectations, and is roughly even with Hiarcs 8. Hopefully, others here will test H9 against H8 and also test H8 Bareev against both H8 and H9. It won't surprise me in the least, if Hiarcs 8 Bareev is the strongest engine of the three...so far it appears it is! Of course this is blitz and running on the same machine. So two computer tests may show different results. Still, my findings came as a surprise and I'm certain that Hiarcs 9 needs an optimized book, as the default book didn't do it any favours.
