Subject: Unusual Hiarcs 9 behaviour : clock resetting

Author: Gordon Rattray

Hi,

While playing against Hiarcs 9, I'm noticing that sometimes the clocks are
resetting. For example, one game was played at "Blitz 60 min" and Hiarcs
counted it's time down to forty-something minutes as the game progressed. And
then suddenly it was set back to 1:00:00.

I realise that a significant number of people on this forum have been using
Hiarcs 9. I'm also unaware of anyone else reporting this issue. So, I delayed
posting and tried to see if there was something I was doing wrong, or something
specific to my setup. But it still evades me.

I'll continue to watch out for subtle conditions that cause the problem. But if
anyone else comes across it, I'd appreciate any thoughts on it.

Finally, for those that may be interested, here's a list of info that may or may
not help to narrow it down...

- I've tried two Chessbase GUIs. Dates: Sept 6 2002 and Aug 24 2003 (recent
version supplied on Hiarcs CD). Both show the issue.
- I've tried the levels: Blitz 60'; 40/40' + 40/40' + 40. Both show the issue.
- using Windows XP
- during the games, I'm only using the GUI for input of the moves. I'm not
clicking in the notation window, or changing settings, etc.
- I've played an engine tournament and engine match *without* seeing any issues.

cheers

Gordon
