it doesn't mater , in either case it does not work -
but I had asked this earlier because of exactly your point - normally WINXP =
WIN2K = WINNT - but when I asked the question I was referred to the readme file
and the readme file ONLY says WINXP but nothing about WIN2K - so of course I
wasted more time fiddling with this setting and in the end it did not matter,
it still does not work

"Rebel 12 and other chess interfaces
===================================
. The Rebel 12 chess engine may be used under other chess interfaces
which support the Winboard protocol. THIS IS HOWEVER NOT ADVISED
as the author does not guarantee the engine's proper behaviour
under any other gui apart from Chess Partner.
Rebel 12 should run smoothly under the latest Chessbase interface
provided the following steps are taken:
. Copy the installed Rebel 12 directory to the installed
ChessBase directory, usually C:\Program Files\ChessBase\Engines
. Should the OS be Windows XP, then edit the file WB2UCI.ENG (this
freeware tool is supplied by Odd Gunnar Malin and is not supported
by the author of Rebel) as follows:
Change "TerminateHard = false" to "TerminateHard = true" and save
the file.
. Start Chessbase (Fritz, Junior, Shredder etc.) and select:
Engine -> New UCI engine -> Browse -> RebelUCI.
That's it! Rebel 12 may now be used in the ChessBase gui.
. Please note that UCI support was introduced in the latest versions of
the Chessbase programs.
. Many thanks go to Odd Gunnar Malin who made this wonderful freeware
tool available!
