This feature is to kill engines that stay in memory. If Rebel doesn't have this problem it doesn't matter what you set it to. The warning is because if you try to kill an engine in Win9x/Me you get a blue screen and isn't able to save other work on the PC. > >I changed the "Logfile = false" to "Logfile = true". > >here is the complete wb2uci.eng: > >============================================================================ >[ENGINE] >Name = Rebel 12 >Author = Ed Schroeder >Filename = RebelUci.exe > >[OPTIONS] >Program = D:\Program >Files\Lokasoft\ChessPartner5.2\engines\Rebel12\Rebel12_CB.exe w6 rebel.eng >LevelExtend = none >Analyze = false >UseUndo = false >Logfile = true >LevelType = 2 >SimulateHint = true >TerminateHard = true >; In WIN XP or Win NT TerminateHard = true >Protocol = 1 >Visible = Ponder,Logfile,Extras > >[EXTRAS] >AntiGM=setvar antigm|spin|0|0|3 >Playingstyle=setvar playstyle|spin|2|0|4 >Strength=setvar playstrength|spin|2|0|2 >Personality=setvar personality >personal\%s.eng|combo|Rebel|Rebel|Rebel1|Rebel2|Rebel3|Rebel4 > >============================================================================== > > >ok ... > >I start the game and here is the log file: > >============================================================================= > >0.000: ** Adapter: Wb2Uci 1.3B10 >0.031: C> uci >0.031: C< id name Rebel 12 >0.031: C< id author Ed Schroeder >0.031: C< option name AntiGM type spin default 0 min 0 max 3 >0.031: C< option name Playingstyle type spin default 2 min 0 max 4 >0.031: C< option name Strength type spin default 2 min 0 max 2 >0.031: C< option name Personality type combo default Rebel var Rebel var Rebel1 >var Rebel2 var Rebel3 var Rebel4 >0.031: C< option name Ponder type check default true >0.031: C< option name Logfile type check default true >0.031: C< uciok >0.078: C> setoption name Hash value 1 >0.078: C> setoption name Ponder value false >0.078: C> isready Here the gui ask the engine to get ready. For protocol 1 engines there is a timer for how long the startup process take. As default this is set to 2 second. In the log it seems to be enough, but you could try to extend this time a bit. Ex. set InitTime=5 under the option section in the eng file. >0.078: S- Starting server: D:\Program >Files\Lokasoft\ChessPartner5.2\engines\Rebel12\Rebel12_CB.exe w6 rebel.eng >0.109: S> License check okay. >0.109: S> info:misc:[2J >0.109: S> info:misc:Rebel 12 >0.109: S> info:misc:Version 12.00.00 (October 2003) >0.109: S> info:misc:Copyright ©2003, by Ed Schröder, The Netherlands >0.109: S> info:misc:http://members.home.nl/matador/index.htm >0.109: S> info:misc:matador@home.nl >0.109: S> info:misc: >0.109: S> W e l c o m e t o R E B E L 12.0 >1.625: S> info:misc:CPU Speed : 1721 Mhz >1.625: S> info:misc: >2.078: S< xboard >2.078: S< new >2.078: S< setlevel 5 300 0 >2.078: S< post >2.078: S< hard >easy >2.078: S- Thread priority set to below normal >2.078: C< readyok >27.844: C> position startpos moves e2e4 e7e5 g1f3 g8f6 f3e5 d7d6 e5f7 e8f7 d2d4 >g7g6 f1c4 f7g7 e1g1 >27.844: C> go btime 300000 wtime 291000 >27.844: C< info depth 1 score 1 >27.844: S< force >27.844: S< new >27.844: S< post >27.844: S< hard >easy >27.844: S< force >27.844: S< setlevel 5 300 0 >27.844: S< force >27.844: S< e2e4 >27.844: S< e7e5 >27.844: S< g1f3 >27.844: S< g8f6 >27.844: S< f3e5 >27.844: S< d7d6 >27.844: S< e5f7 >27.844: S< e8f7 >27.844: S< d2d4 >27.844: S< g7g6 >27.844: S< f1c4 >27.844: S< f7g7 >27.844: S< e1g1 >27.844: S< time 30000 >27.844: S< otim 29100 >27.844: S< black >27.844: S< go >55.312: C> stop >55.312: S< ? >65.562: C< bestmove d6d5 >68.125: S< quit >====================================================================== > >I never see the move d6d5 played on Fritz 8, the last move I see is e1g1 played >by me. This 'adapter' move is a random legal move. depth 1 are sent automatic by the adapter because some gui (probably Fritz) needed it, else it would terminate the engine. I don't know if this is still true but as long as it doesn't do any harm its better to have support for more gui's. Score=1 in the same automatic sending are to stop any drawoffer if you have selected this in the gui and the engine are still in book (no pv). I think Shredder classic needed this. > > >That's it - > >Note - if Copy my Rebel Pre- Release engine over and rename it to >"Rebel12_CB.exe" it WORKS so there is clearly something different between Rebel >12 and Rebel 12 pre-release. > This is strange, by this the only thing I could think of now late at night was this inittime setting. I get back If I see a light somewhere, but I'm preparing for an otb-tournament in Russia this weekend so my head is feed up with chess-moves right now.
