Subject: Rebel12 UCI problems? Try this ...

Try seeing if the rebel-uci interface works by testing it "by hand" rather than
through ChessBase.

How to do it:

Open up the rebel12 folder

Double-click on rebeluci.exe

... You will see a command window appear with "200" written in it

Now type the following commands in sequence:

uci
position startpos moves h2h3 f7f6 h1h2 e8f7
isready
go infinite
stop

"uci" initialises the uci interface, and you should see a few lines in reply,
ending in "uciok". The "position" line sets an out-of-book position from the
starting position. You should see no reply to this command. "isready" waits for
Rebel12 to be ready - wait for "readyok" in reply. "go infinite" starts analysis
which you should see whizz up the screen. "stop" stops the analysis and leads to
a "bestmove" reply.

Now when I try this on a P4-1800 on Windows-XP it works, I get the following:

200uci

Great! It works! But when I try on a Athlon-1700+ on Windows-2000-Pro, this
happens:

200uci
id name Rebel 12
id author Ed Schroeder
option name AntiGM type spin default 0 min 0 max 3
option name Playingstyle type spin default 2 min 0 max 4
option name Strength type spin default 2 min 0 max 2
option name Personality type combo default Rebel var Rebel var Rebel1 var Rebel2
 var Rebel3 var Rebel4
option name Ponder type check default true
option name Logfile type check default false
uciok
position startpos moves h2h3 f7f6 h1h2 e8f7
isready
readyok
go infinite
info depth 1 score 1

... and then nothing. Rebel12 works fine under ChessPartner on both machines. Is
this an Athlon problem, or a Windows-2000 problem perhaps?
