Yes, removing the front covers might save the disks, but burn everyting else.

If the disks are still *really* hot, you (Roy) might consider adding another fan
to get the air circulating inside the box. I have sometimes used a small CPU fan
to blow air in the direction of the drive space. It doesn't need much to make a
difference, once it gets the air moving.
