Multiple versions in the 'engine' folder were possible with Fritz6 engines. Someone explained how to make some simple hex-edits. It seems the engine author (or ChessBase maybe) didn't like this. No matter if this is true or not, some change was made that stopped this hex-edit from working. I think ChessBase and its engine authors could easily make it so later versions / updates / patches can all be in the engine folder. Only they know why it is not done especially given the user demographic. BK
