It mainly depended on how often I made (or my opponents made) horrible blunders like hanging a Queen. I ultimately settled down to a rating around 2000, which about matched my USCF rating. (Both ratings are now inactive.) I think people play predominantly blitz rather than slower games online because it reduces the likelihood of their opponents' successfully cheating by using a computer. (FWIW, I never suspected cheating by my opponents, but I haven't played online in over a year.)
