Playing blitz online, I've ranged from under 1600 to over 2200. It mainly
depended on how often I made (or my opponents made) horrible blunders like
hanging a Queen. I ultimately settled down to a rating around 2000, which about
matched my USCF rating. (Both ratings are now inactive.)

I think people play predominantly blitz rather than slower games online because
it reduces the likelihood of their opponents' successfully cheating by using a
computer.

(FWIW, I never suspected cheating by my opponents, but I haven't played online
in over a year.)
