FWIW I had a problem in XiniX that showed itself in the same way. The problem was that the console wasn't thread safe. I was writing from different places to the console at the same time. Solution was to encapsulate the actual writing function with a critical section. BTW anything you paint on the screen isn't threadsafe either so that should have an "entercriticalsection" as well.
