Another danger is the _other_ kind of trap. e4 e5 Nf3 a6 Bb5 and now black is sorely tempted to play Nf6 transposing back into the Ruy Lopez. Of course, axb5 is winning for black rather than transposing back into book. :) Transposing is not good if the starting position is _not_ a book position while the ending position is. It leads to normal-looking positions, but it is embarassing.
