Hi,

While the AMD has great integer performance (good for chess), I would go for the
P4. The reason is that the P4 will do better in terms of reducing system
latency, due to hyperthreading(HT). BTW, I assume the chipset in this comp
supports HT.

I would suggest you read the most recent article at www.chessassistance.com. It
deals with this topic directly. While it talks about using Chess Assistant with
a HT enabled processor, the concepts in the article extend to other programs as
well.

If system latency and responsiveness are not important to you, and raw
calculation speed is, then get the Athlon. BTW, a few hundred pounds delta seems
like quite a bit for the two systems. Unless you're doing some intense gaming
(not chess) with this machine, you could do with just about any graphics card
(Nvidia MX440 is good bet).
