Thanks, I am quite convinced that it is some "strange" and more complex effect,
which is linked to my particular setup. In fact during the 3-4 minutes Crafty
does not do anything, in particular no disk activity, also no CPU usage (looked
at performance monitor). There is more than enough physical memory left, the
system is not thrashing. I would be inclined to believe that it is linked with
the .net compiler and me not having installed the .net environment. To verify
this I will install the .net environment, an Intel compiler binary of Crafty
19.4 would also allow to test this theory.
