   Fern,
I,like yourself, prefere to play against the various engines because
in so doing I derive the greatest enjoyment.I don't play in tournements
but the computers tell me I am around 1600 elo.
You can imagine I get destroyed by all current programs if I don't
play them on their weakest weakest levels.

My favorite engine to play against is GM9K because of it's different
play levels and play styles which give me the possibilty to
chose an opponent against whom I have a chance of winning.
I have played against Fritz and Crafty but do not find it so enjoyable
because they do not have the same "nice play at lower levels".

I use F8 to analyse my games.

Fern, although I find it very boring to pit comp.vs comp.myself
I find it very interesting to see the results from others doing it.
It gives us an idea of where the various engines are;one compared
        to the other.
You must admit you do want to know!
I for one don't want to do it,but on the other hand,I encourage
mostly heartedly those already engaged in this activity to continue.

Why! Most definately I need to know the best engine for analysis.

        Bonjour et soyez sage ....Alain
