--------------- comments why -------------

 1. HIARCS6 2555 ---- GB

hiarcs will be replaced by hiarcs7 beta as soon as it arrives at my
home...
of course hiarcs has been succesful in participating in the
summer-tournament...

 2. REBEL 10 2446 ---- NL

the successor of rebel9. it will be interesting to see if rebel10 has
more power and stands and fights better than rebel9 has done in the
summer-tournament.

 3. JUNIOR5 JUN.CTG 2661 ---- IS

of course junior is in...plays nice and interesting chess, although it
is a fast searcher :-))

 4. CSTAL WIN95 2625 ---- GB

latest version of chris whittington. still beta. but will be soon on
the market, the predecessor was DOS, this is win95/98.

 5. THE KING 2.55 2468 ---- NL

instead of crashing chessmaster versions, i do use now the original
the king. need some advice how to set it up. experts of the king, feel
free to email me and to tell me how to set it up right. some mentioned
ACTICE styling, others asked for the book. I can setup active, no
problem, and also i have downloaded the AEGON-book. but is this
optimal ? we will see...

 6. CHESS TIGER 11.7 2505 ---- F

the successor of tiger 11.5 that participated in my summer-tournament.
MUCH stronger. we will see...

 7. NIMZO98 PADERBORN 2582 ---- A

as soon as the NEW nimzo (no matter in which user-interface:-))
arrives, i will use it.

 8. CRAFTY 15.18 2455 ---- USA

Bob - which version do you want to participate with ?
some mentioned a version 16.00-. shall i download it ?

 9. GANDALF3 2473 ---- DAN

the latest commercial version of gandalf. gandalf came to late on the
market to participate in the summer-tournament. this was a great loss
to me. now the latest version is IN. will be very interesting to see
how ganfalf fights.

10. SHREDDER3 2499 ---- D

Stefan was in holiday when i wanted to ask if he wants to participate
in the summer-tournament. so he was not in. This time the even
stronger shredder3 will be in.

11. MCHESS8 2442 ---- USA

of course the successor of mchess7 is also in. I hope it can fight for
the leading position...

12. DIEP 1.60.01 2353 ---- NL

I got vincents latest version installed. it was MY mistake vince. Now
it runs and is hopefully stronger than version 1.58.13 was.

13. GENIUS5 2426 ---- GB

as soon as millenium's genius6 is on the market, i will replace
genius5 with genius6 of course. Richard Lang is still a MUST and
without genius in, there is something missing (as we all have felt in
paris 1997).

14. WCHESS 1.04 2425 ---- USA

I am looking forward to the engine that runs in the millenium user
interface. I hope it is latest and state-of-the-art. Because my
version 1.04 is a little-bit rusty. But a tournament without a
Kittinger horse is no right tournament at all.
Hopefully this wchess2000 is strong and reaches me soon enough.

15. ZARKOV 4.2C 2441 ---- USA

There is a version zarkov5 in the millenium interface, they say. so
maybe zarkov gets replaced too. Would be nice. for a long time crafty
and zarkov were in a strong position in my tournament. I hope zarkov5
can do the same in christmas tournament.

16. FRITZ 16BIT POWER.CTG 2412 ---- D

since Frans does not like the german name Fritz, i have named fritz as
a german product. First i thought : no - fritz has played too weak.
but than some critics in ccc came up with: without fritz it is no real
tournament. I don't think this is true. fritz had no chance in the
summer-tournament to influence the outcome. it was too weak.
now it has the chance to show again its strength. Comments are
welcomed how to set it up. especially concerning the book stuff. last
tournament it played with the power-books. shall i let it play with
the normal book this time ??? Please fritz experts, some advises...

So - here is the pairing for the first round:

(Programmers: if you want to give me advise HOW to set up your program
or what to do or which version to use, please email me, otherwise i
will play in the setup shown above.)

                                  Results Mode Round
No 1
i-------------------------------------------------------------------------
¦ 1. HIARCS6, (1) - (9) GANDALF3,
¦ 2. SHREDDER3, (10) - (2) REBEL 10,
¦ 3. JUNIOR5 JUN.CTG, (3) - (11) MCHESS8,
¦ 4. DIEP 1.60.01, (12) - (4) CSTAL WIN95,
¦ 5. THE KING 2.55, (5) - (13) GENIUS5,
¦ 6. WCHESS 1.04, (14) - (6) CHESS TIGER 11.7,
¦ 7. NIMZO98 PADERBORN, (7) - (15) ZARKOV 4.2C,
¦ 8. FRITZ 16BIT POWER.CTG, (16) - (8) CRAFTY 15.18,

The tournament is played in 40/120 time control. and will have 11
rounds.

If the programs support auto232 chrilly donninger autoplayer, i will
use this device and do the games over night. if the programs do not
(anymore) support the auto232 interface, i will play the games
manually.

best wishes
