he must have been sleeping or something. every club player should realize in
something like 2 seconds that Bxh7+ Kxh7 Qh5+ Kg8 Bxg7 is a classic combination
(similar to e.g. the Bxh7+ Kxh7+ Qh5+ Kg8 Ng5 - type of combination, perhaps a
bit less well known). of course, for us humans it takes some time to check the
variations, and perhaps weaker players would not calculate it correctly etc etc;
but that a player like karpov would "forget" this is just impossible. his
tactical alarm bell didn't go off or something.
