Subject: how to beat PCG in 25 moves with 25.b3# ...

Author: Mike Byrne

Date: 19:16:34 10/14/03

....(and impress your chess friends) the game is short it is completely
memorizable.

A couple of caveats - repeated games with same line although I never wrote the
moves down - I forced myself to memorize the line I was playing. I fine tuned my
moves each time. The game is repeatable. If you vary your response time, CG
may play differently. All games played with pondering on and no overclocking.
Setting is Game in 5 minutes. Kind of neat to play this on the train when
somebody is watching you play - they will think you're really "good" ;>) --
only joking of course!

[Event "Game/5"]
[Site "Secane, PA USA"]
[Date "2003.10.14"]
[Round "?"]
[White "Byrne, Michael"]
[Black "Genius 1.5 Dell Axim 400 Mhz"]
[Result "1-0"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 d6 4. Bc4 g5 5. h4 f6 6. d4 h6 7. Nc3 Nc6 8. hxg5
fxg5 {
[d]r1bqkbnr/ppp5/2np3p/6p1/2BPPp2/2N2N2/PPP3P1/R1BQK2R w KQkq - 0 9
The pawn exchange sets up e5 with the idea of Qh5+ after Nxe5
}
9. e5 dxe5 10. Nxe5 Nxe5 11. Qh5+ Kd7 12. dxe5 c6 13. Bxf4 {
[d]r1bq1bnr/pp1k4/2p4p/4P1pQ/2B2B2/2N5/PPP3P1/R3K2R b KQ - 0 13
}
Bxf4 was a freebie because of threat Rd1. Note how white has 4 pieces ready to
attack and back has none. White does not even have to thinbk about castleing
here.

13....Kc7 {
[d]r1bq1bnr/ppk5/2p4p/4P1pQ/2B2B2/2N5/PPP3P1/R3K2R w KQ - 0 14
Computers like Rd1 here - but I want the quick mate and I need to keep the black
bishop.
}
14. Bg3 Bb4 15. e6+ Kb6 16. Qf3 Nf6 {
[d]r1bq3r/pp6/1kp1Pn1p/6p1/1bB5/2N1Q1B1/PPP3P1/R3K2R b KQ - 0 17
Depending on your response time, CG may play 16...Qf8 - you are playing 17.Qe3
on either case

}
17. Qe3+ c5 18. Rd1 {
[d]r1bq3r/pp6/1k2Pn1p/2p3p1/1bB5/2N1Q1B1/PPP3P1/3RK2R b K - 0 18
Finally, it's time to play Rd1!

18....Qe7 19. Rd6+ Ka5 20. a3 Bxa3 21. Nd5 Bb4+ 22. Ke2 Qe8 23. Ra1+ Ba3
{
[d]r1b1q2r/pp6/3RPn1p/k1pN2p1/2B5/b3Q1B1/1PP1K1P1/R7 w - - 0 24
Be1+ is required to secure the mate with the lowly "b" pawn. There are
obviously other mates availble - I always enjoy mating with a pawn if given the
opportunity. Impresses your fellow train rider best as well!

24. Be1+ Ka4 25. b3# 1-0
