    Hello!
I think that maybe I can help you:
you want to build a tree with just 1 variation ?
it's easy , and I do it everyday for matches between engines:
  1
create a new tree or if you have an useless one , delete whole tree
for a new tree menu "file" "new" "opening book"
    to empty a tree:
right click the tree-window "delete whole tree"
  2
    enter a variation:
     right-click the tree-window
click on "allow move adding" and enter the variation manually with the board
then you can use the tree as an opening-book
  3
to change the variation completely : "delete whole tree"
to lengthen : "allow move adding" and enter the new moves with the board
to shorten : right-click on the move to suppress and click on"delete move"
I hope it will work, as it works with me
    Friendly yours
      Claude Le Page
