I ran an engine-engine blitz match between Hiarcs9 and Fritz8.26 Both played well and differently. I learned alot from watching them. Fritz8 rally enjoys prophylaxis-- restricting minor pieces. Hiarcs9 seeks interesting unbalanced positions. Fritz won more often than Hiarcs, but when Hiarcs won it was an education for me. I ran 46 games (4"+2')on a singlechip XP 1700 machine. Each side had a hash of 370 megs. Tablebases disabled. Fritz can mate with B+N ,btw. I don't want to reduce what I learned to a score... I do not think that is fair for a couple of reasons. I am not sure that the Hiarcs engine was using its opening book while firtz used the powerbboks. I suspect a there's a bug in the fritz engie match software which does this. Still a good cheap entertainment. -marc On October 15, 2003 at 16:38:20, stuart taylor wrote: >I mean, even though this was the most recent program, it is unfortunately >obviously a little weaker than the top, when put up against ssdf testing. > If Hiarcs' style is superior to all other programs, then maybe that can be >"forgiven", and still be seen as a great new and worthwhile program, because I >beleive that style is worth rating points. > But at any rate, I hope that Hiarcs can come up with a quick fix (patch) to >make its rating a little higher than its competitors, because the way it is, I'm >not motivated enough to select it, instead of other programs, like Shredder 8, >(or even 7.04, or Fritz 8 or Junior 8). >I'm really looking forward to Shredder 8, according to what I hear.
