You could use your F8 for opening practice by playing games with only ten moves following with opening book referencing and checking to see how you compared with theoretical pathways. I use Hiarcs 8; Chess Tiger 15 but not CM9000 for opening games (ten moves) which I put in a manila folder and analyze. I got a problem of logic for you. You say that you use Fritz 8 for game analysis. I say what good is Fritz 8's analysis of positions that you could never in your life-time reach. In other words your computer's analysis is not practical for you. I think that you're better off getting some notebook and writing your own analysis of a game that you're interested in. [check-out Mark Buckley's "Practical Chess Analysis" 2nd edition]and then typing it up in your word processor. I did this in mid-1996 with a game played with the Kasparov GK2100 and it was printed in GM Lev Alburt's "Back to Basics" which helped make the book by GM Andy Soltis's "Bird-Larsen Attack" a best seller. I had actually brought the book as soon as IM Ken Smith's Chess Digest business put it to press. So I had a head start of two months on everyone else who brought the book from the USCF. Thanks for responding dear chessfellow and I hope that you can use my advice advantageously against those who you play against. take care now, Frank Nelson
