Ra7 Nxd5 and Bxb2 are kind of forced. almost ANY program would have played that. Fritz8, Shredder7, and as we have seen The King, play 12.O-O. >and after 13 ... Shredder7 plays Nf6 too. Fritz8 plays Qa5. Thats right. So : from the moment Nb5 came, the engine had almost NO chance to play different. I doubt that it should be random that The King chose this "game" without having played out this on autoplayers against the commercial version of Rebel12 before. >When Rebel would have played the simple 13 ... But if the opponent would have bought the commercial version BEFORE the tournament, he could have outplayed this game on his autoplayers. Or prepare it in manually input moves into rebel. >So before you jump into conclusions like 'Rebel falls into a simple >trap' it is better first to investigate what REALLY happened. > >Jeroen what really happened is the following: >>8.Nb5 brings rebel out of book. >>12.O-O prepares the killer >>17.Rd6 kills. thats how killer openings work. It is not important if the line works, it is important that the opponent PLAYS the line. You can try this out BEFORE the match. And the trap is very good if the opponent has not many VARIATIONS to go out of the trap. With the beginning of 1.Nc3 rebel was in a trap with using the normal book i have from my rebel12-CD. ANY opponent program would have been able to prepare such a game. I remember when the CENTAUR people did this to hiarcs on a championship. but the guys were so FAIR only to make a draw. :-)) Reason was the same: hiarcs was sold BEFORE the championship and the tournament book used lines out of the commercial book available before the championship. it's not a good advise to use parts or lines out of a book that was commercial before. it's not the first time those "lines" have been used . history of computerchess is full of those preparations that helped the engines.
