But it shouldn't hurt anything if you want to try it. I think it's clear that their update algorithm/server doesn't work reliably, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just consider yourself lucky that you were offered an update! I tried yesterday using an older Shredder 7 installation version, and they didn't offer me one. Then I tried again today, and they did. Go figure. I have Shredder 7, but I believe the GUI is identical to Fritz 8. I'm going to give version 14 a second try now. The first time 10 days ago I couldn't use it because Infinite Analysis mode stopped at random -- sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes an hour or more. I don't know why it would act any better now, but I want to be doubly sure. The prior Mar 2003 update works fine for me, which is what I'll probably revert to again. We'll see. It would be of interest if you will report back about any bugs you find in your Fritz 8 update, particularly that one in Infinite Analysis mode. Yes, I believe 8.0.0.23 is the latest engine version available for Fritz 8, and probably the last one. I suspect you'll have to wait and buy Fritz 9 when it comes out to get the WM version. WP
