[Event "23rd DOCC"]
[Site "Leiden NED"]
[Date "2003.10.19"]
[Round "4"]
[White "Chess Tiger"]
[Black "Rebel"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[PlyCount "164"]
[EventDate "2003.??.??"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Ndb5 d6 7. Bg5 a6 8.
Na3 b5 9. Bxf6 gxf6 10. Nd5 f5 11. Bd3 Be6 12. Qh5 Rg8 13. g3 Rg5 14. Qd1 Bxd5
15. exd5 Ne7 16. c3 Bh6 17. Be2 Rc8

A very topical line these days. The last move was played by Lautier in a game
against Judit Polgar.

18. c4 Qa5+ 19. Kf1 b4!

A novelty. I don't recall what Lautier played, but Judit got the better position
in that game.

20. Nc2 Qb6 21. f4?!

This seems very risky.

21... Rg6 22. fxe5?

Opening up can only be good for Black.

22... dxe5 23. b3 f4 24. Qd3 Qf6 25. g4 f3!

Rebel plays forcefully and excellent! Now 36. Bxf3 Rxg4
and Rf4 is bad for White, so there only remains:

26. Qxf3 Nxd5 27. h4 e4 28. Qxf6 Rxf6+ 29. Ke1 Bf4 30. Rd1 Bg3+ 31. Kd2 Nf4 32.
Nxb4 Re6!

Another strong move, that is going to win an exchange by force.

33. Ke3 Ng2+ 34. Kd2 e3+ 35. Kc3 Nf4 36. Rde1 Bxe1+ 37. Rxe1 a5 38. Nd3 Nxe2+
39. Rxe2 Kf8 40. g5 Re4 41. h5 Kg7 42. Ne1 Rce8 43. Ng2 Rg4 44. Nxe3 Rxg5 45.
Kd4 Rd8+ 46. Nd5 Rxh5

Up to here Rebel has played strong chess, but now something goes wrong. Tiger
digs in and makes life as difficult as possible for Black, with success.

47. Rg2+ Kf8 48. Kc5 Rb8 49. Kd4 h6 50. Nf6 Rd8+ 51. Ke4 Rc5 52. Kf4 Rd4+
53. Ke3 Rd6 54. Rg8+ Ke7 55. Nd5+ Rdxd5?

This offers no winning chances whatsoever. The rook ending is a simple draw.

56. cxd5 Rxd5 57. Ke4 Rb5 58. Rh8 h5 59. Kf4 Kf6 60. Ra8 Rd5 61. a4 Rf5+ 62. Kg3
Kg7 63. Rb8 Re5 64. b4

With the black a-pawn removed the draw is clear. Even without the white a-pawn
it is a draw!

64 ... Re4 65. bxa5 Rxa4 66. Ra8 Kg6 67. Rg8+ Kf5 68. Rh8 Ra3+ 69. Kh4 Ra1 70.
Kg3 Kg5 71. Rg8+ Kf6 72. Ra8 Ra4 73. Ra7 Kg6 74. Ra8 Kg5 75. Rg8+ Kf6 76. Ra8
Ke7 77. Ra7+ Ke6 78. Ra8 Ra2 79. a6 Ra3+ 80. Kh4 Kf5 81. Rc8 f6 82. Rc7 Kg6

1/2-1/2
