Of course there are improvements earlier on.
The variation played by Ruffian is known to be bad.
Theory states that white has more than enough compensation for the pawn after
10...Bxc3 11.bxc3 Nxe4.
The program played 19.Bb3 probably because it saw 20.d5!.
However this line is not easy to play because black gets those connected passed
pawns.
You never know how to evaluate that correctly.
Shredder and some others like 31.Qc7 but maybe they are completely wrong.
Who knows?
19.Ba2, preventing 19...Nb5, was probably stronger.
