Dear Bill, Computer chess is an obsession. Spending $600,000 on a Lamborghini or Bentley is also an obsession. It really doesn't take a lot of money to do computer chess. For under $2000.00 you can have a nice 64 bit machine. It isn't even necessary to spend more than $300.00 since a Dell Axim x5 unit with Pocket Fritz 2.0 or ChessGenius 1.5 will beat you 99.9% of the time.
