Hi all:
In http://www.lokasoft.nl/uk/ChessPartner4.htm you can get Schahmaster, sucesor
of L-Chess. Is just another candidate to make a dent in our wallets and really
you wonder when the day will come when no more engines and programs will be
offered to you. This program is delivered as a demo for 30 days so you do not
risk a cent trying it for a time, as I did.
Now, which is the reason I talk about it here? It is a monster? Stronger than
many? The better GUI of the universe? Barbara streisand sing the moves and
Claudia Shiffer show his ass if you mate the engine? It brings a tutorial that
take you from your current condition as C player and after 10 games you have
became a GM?
Nope.
In fact is has not the better gui of the market, his 3-d board remember the
nostagy of CGC screen of older days, the voice feature is like a robot fitted to
how robots were thought in the age of the first "Star Trek" cycle, etc, etc, but
it have the most important feature of all, one that every player and fan desires
from time ago, that kind of forbiden desire of which we cannot or we do not dare
to talk and surely forgotten by programmers: the engine is beatable without
being openly stripped. Who loves to win a race competing againts crippled
people? Around 2250 Elo according his programmers, around 2200 according my
guts, Schasmaster is a nice program because is strong enough to give you a fight
and in fact to defeat you many times, but not so awfully strong as to push you
on the ropes from move 12, as top programs. Even more, is weak enough to be
defeated by you at least one time in three. Is'n wonderful?
Fernando
