Are you sure this game was Gothmog-Phalanx and not Nemeth-Fritz ?
If your engine really didn't play 15.Bc4 out of the opening book then it was
an outstanding performance.
15.Bc4 is of course not ?!, it is a good move and not unsound at all.
It's not a novelty however.
