Also, http://slashdot.org/articles/03/10/22/1727208.shtml (No registration required.) For mostly non technical reasons, VT was in a big rush to get this farm in place prior to October first. If they had been able to wait a month or so, they likely would have gotten a much better and certainly more appropriate solution by waiting for Apple to deliver Xserve cluster nodes (rackmount) with dual G5 CPUs. Now they have paid for 1,100 desktop machines, each with plenty of costly features that have absolutely no use in a cluster environment.
