Jeroen,

you are quite right about not expecting the transpositon into the Ruy Lopez.
However, using the Fritz GUI I had tried out Ruffian against Rebel 12 (full
version) and it just occured to me that one of the possible transpositions might
be the Ruy Lopez. I had both Ruffian and Rebel in the GUI and I made Ruffian
play the transposition and saw it preparing to play 8.Bd5 actually. I also let
Rebel think after the bishop move and saw Rebel thinking about b4? I tried out
Fritz MMX too which also wanted to play b4... And then it was too late, about 5
a.m. and I simply gave up. I left the Ruffian lines for Rebel as they were and
emailed them to Johan Havegheer, wishing for this particular line not to come
up. And it did, just like they always do... One thing I was sure about was
that Ruffian would not be handicapped, even in this line. All kudos to your
unexpected 1...Nc6.
