In the note I saw, The white pawn was on a2 and a rook against a black bishop and pawn on a3. There is the article by van den Herik, Herschberg and Nakad in the ICCA Journal, Vol 10 No 4. A maximum position is identified as WKb8, WRg5, WP a2; BKb6, BBe3, BPa3 WTM with 54 moves to conversion. This article does not discuss the possibility of moving the pawn ram to other squares. As for can it come up in a real game, the article quotes one game (Timman - Velimirovic, 1979). Whether others have occurred since I have no idea. Anyway, go for it Bruce. As far as I know, all the other 6 piece pawn ram databases have yet to be done. Maybe you will find something interesting? Shane
