I think it is crap.
Consider the following example:

A,B play against C and D
A blunders a piece after 16 moves against C and resigns.
D blunders a piece after 18 moves against A and resigns.
B struggles for the win against C and D for almost 6 hours until both games end
in a draw.

What happens?

A gets 3 points and B only 2 points.

This is just one argument. I have a lot more.

Michael
