I pretty much agree -- my only complaint against Chessbase is that they are very stingy about upgrades and sidegrades. A sidegrade to Pocket Fritz would be nice for owners of Fritz 8. >If it's bundled with the PC program then effectively all user are pay for the >program - even the ones without a PPC / Palm - that does not seem fair to me! Very true, ultimately the cost is leveraged _somehow_. It's the perception of cost -- for example, it still rubs me the wrong way that if you buy, for example, Shredder 7, Fritz 8, Junior 8, you're get 3 copies of the same interface, same database, etc. What people want is the engine and (sometimes) opening book. Of course if you separate the content by offering sidegrades, the cost is still leveraged by paying a high cost for the GUI only, for example. My boss used to say, "Perception is everything."
