Subject: Response to the Diepeveen/Noomen book thread

Hi all,

several people asked my why I didn't reply to Vincents accusation towards
Jeroen Noomen.

I originally didn't want to write any reply at all to such a preposterous
claim but because of the above I see myself forced to.

I don't see WTF Vincent cares about what we do with our books instead
of caring about why DIEP played so poorly. Distraction tactics?

What books and book decisions Deep Sjeng makes in chess tournaments is between
Jeroen and me. I don't care what Vincent thinks, I _KNOW_ Jeroen works hard
to get Sjengs book competitive and to _WIN_. For sure, it doesn't always work
out right but the play of my engine is not without fauls either.

Also note that the one having the final say about what gets played is me,
and if I don't agree with Jeroens recommendation or books, I'm free to overrule
or ask another opening. Jeroen made, in total, TWELVE books (*) for me this
tournament together with information on what was in them, enough to have an
alternate if needed (and we did pick an alternate for one crucial game).

I'm not a man to make excuses when the engine fucks up and neither is Jeroen
the man to make excuses when the book fucks up. So we'd rather improve the
engine and book so we can win ICVSN 2004, instead of having to waste our
time replying to claims (not only from Vincent) that have no basis and
are only intented to stir up things, thank you very much.
