Go up one level in this thread

I haven't done any testing to be able to provide concrete proof.. but I think
going to 2 threads with an engine has a small negative impact on search times. I
don't mean raw NPS, but the actual time to find the move.

Generally it doesn't matter because when you're using a second cpu of the same
speed because any small negative impact is outweighed by the large increase in
nps you just received from the second cpu. However.. with hyperthreading it's
more like you having two 1.6GHz chips vs a single 3.0GHz chip for chess.
Normally any sane person would go with the single 3.0. If there IS any benefit..
it would be very small, something on the order of 5 elo or less I'd imagine.

If you want the strongest chess setup you could ditch the P4 and go for a
dual/quad Opteron with Shredder 7.04.. or if money is a concern a fast dual
Athlon system.
