Even if my chess programs slow down the computer a little bit in general (not debilitating at all, but slightly noticeable), and I don't have additional processors in it, does this also mean that the chess engines will not work as well as they should? Or is this more an issue of just resource hungry graphics? When these chess programs list system requirements, they never seem to mention multiple processors, etc. For instance, here's what my two chess programs *say* they require (I know these are supposed to be "minimum requirements", but still, it seems like nothing close to what you're suggesting): Hiarcs 9: 32 MB RAM Hi Color Graphics DirectX 8.1 (or higher? I think I have DirectX 9 in it) Chessmaster 9000: Pentium II 450 or AMD K6-3 500 For XP: 128 MB RAM (256 recommened) DirectX 8.1 3D video card (optional) etc. I'm certainly not questioning what you're saying, so why don't these companies state more realistic requirements? Even if they're minimums? I guess I should have done a bit more research before having this computer built, but it is a wee bit frustrating to be faced with this now...especially if my computer won't allow these chess engines to "think" as well as they should. Thanks again for your comments. Melissa
