Subject: I have a nice dream ... Leiden / Ruffian / Arena / EL Chinito !

Hi there,

after a long time not available here I read at the moment the messages from the
last months.

In the past I am very disappointed about different postings here from German
people to absolutly off topics. The CCC moderators made in this time a great
work and delete a lot of this postings. I am not disappointed about this forum,
more about the same people which try to start disuss about own interest, only.
It is allways the same that different German people try to bring nonsens in
interesting chess fora. It's better if the persons collect a group and at this
time I have a good fealing that it's done (after some years).

Very late in Germany and my bed is waiting ...

Different things:

1.
I have much new members in my own forum which I know from CCC. This is great for
me because I have more English messages in my own forum (my biggest problem in
the past). But in fact we have two very good chess fora:

CCC
WinBoard Forum

This is also for me a lot of years the addresses number 1 and 1.1 :-)

My own fora is more or less important for the Arena GUI development but it's
nice to read from time to time other chess topics.

Thanks to long CCC members which have interest to give her power to make Arena
stronger. I am absolutly sure that we can create in a open group the strongest
chess GUI on the freeware and commercial market.

2.
The Arena Team create so far a new professional company. The combination Arena /
Ruffian is our first commercial project and at the moment I cann't say to which
time we are ready for take off on Runway Arena 1.0 in combination with Ruffian
2.0. We have much work to organice in our free time the new company. The company
is a private project because we all have an intersting job and the main reason
for us is not to make money. We have other interest and maybe I can write a
little bit about it later.

Important for all Arena fans (I say "Gladiators") is, that Arena is in the past
and future a freeware Chess GUI. On the commercial version of Arena / Ruffian
are the same Arena GUI versions compare to our webpages (without any changes).
No doubt about it ... ARENA IS FREEWARE !!

I believe the combination is new:
Arena is Freeware and soon a commercial software :-)
Like that and I am sure the most of the users like that too.

3.
The actual Ruffian version is in my opinion over 100 ELO stronger as the free
available Ruffian versions. We drive to Leiden and we (my girlfriend and I) are
sure that we win the tournament. Yes, the comment is not very good ... I know
this ... but I know the playing strength from Per-Ola`s baby too. Ruffian
versions 1.01 - 1.05 are over one year old and Per-Ola made strong improvments.
Furthermore, we have Djordje in our team and a lot of others persons which
helped us all the time.

A little bit clearer:
I am thinking that Ruffian and Shredder are so far the best chess programs in
the World. I don't know how strong are the not available versions of Junior,
Hiarcs and the others. All programmers are working but Shredder made in the past
the big jumpings.

Great work Stefan !!

4.
Arena 0.95 official version is next week available with Setup files on Arena
webpages. Included are a newer version of EL Chinito. Eugenio and Pascal are
working on EL Chinito and it seems that EL Chinito have a good chance to play on
the same playing level compare SOS.3 for Arena or better. Eugenio and Pascal
have a lot of fun in delvelopment of EL Chinito and I sure all the users with EL
Chinito too.

5.
Leiden!

Thanks for all the congratulations!
Per-Ola and Djordje are the winner in our team.
Leo, Johan and myself are only the operators.

I organice a little bit with a great effort by Johan Havegheer and know the cup
are in the near from my Notebook :-)
I will send it Per-Ola soon and this is the right answer for all this what
Per-Ola done in the past. He give us a great pice of (forget the word) ...

My biggest congratulation to Tony Werten (XiniX) ... great game against Ruffian
and to Gian Carlo Pascutto (don't losed any game). I wrote a little bit in Arena
News Ticker. It was a great event and I am very happy that I must not drive at
home without this ... for our new company ... very important cup. I am sure that
the readers understand what I mean. We say befor the tournament startet that we
create a company with our first product "Ruffian" and this was not a mistake
because I will play my chess game with open cards. The second tournament and the
second success for Ruffian (Ruffian won the latest and biggest computer chess
tournament ... CCT ... too).

Congratulations to all other programmers where participant in Leiden (not to
Vincent).

I will try to make my best to create with Martin Blume the company and we are
sure that the Arena development can give a little part to all people which have
interest on computer chess.

By the way:
We have no reason to add a copy protection on our commercial CDs. This is not
this what I like in the past from commercial companys. I am thinking as user.
The most 99,9% (hope so) of the computer chess interested persons are honest
people.

Have a nice day!
Jumping now in my bed and have a nice dream ...

Best
Frank
