I did what you suggested, and it did make a difference. All programs seem to be running very quickly again. Now a small question or two or three... Do I need to do this every time I start one of the chess programs? Also...since the chess programs seem to *want* to use all those resources, if I restrict their resource usage like this (I assume this is what I'm doing...is this correct?), will this affect their proper functioning? I don't think either chess program is too worried about me though, and could probably squish me easily while being half brain dead, but I'm wondering anyway. :-) Also...about the "jerky" animation (not an issue with Chessmaster, as that's very smooth and fast, but it is with Hiarcs 9)... If my system seems to you that it should be up to the task of running these program's graphics, is there any little tweak to make the Hiarcs animation a little smoother? Thanks again! Melissa
