Subject: Hash Tables and Linked Lists

 Hello to all, which is the main difference?, can someone explain the concept
behind Hash Tables. (in general, not only from chess programming point of view)

 I am reading about it from Kernighan and Ritchie but i need some help here. It
is true that was IBM who first use Hash Tables?.
