I have made a program that I've tested by counting nodes and then check
against crafty. Here's what I've got:

Ply| Number of nodes | Total # nodes | # Nodes / Prev. # Nodes
---+-----------------+---------------+------------------------
0 | 1 | 1 |
1 | 20 | 21 | 20.000
2 | 400 | 421 | 20.000
3 | 8902 | 9323 | 22.255
4 | 197281 | 206604 | 22.161
5 | 4865609 | 5072213 | 24.663
6 | 119060324 | 124132537 | 24.470
7 | 3195901860 | 3320034397 | 26.843

You could of course calculate more plys using crafty on a powerful
machine with the command: perft <depth>
Note that crafty always get one node less then me because I count the
initial pos.
