Subject: solution to the contoversy of opening books

Author: Rajen Gupta

all authors of opening books as well as the respective engine programmers claim
that the ob is part and parcel of the chess package and the engine can only
function at its best if it uses its own optimised opening books; this has been
shouted from the rooftops for years

(if one belives this theory then then the KING SKR is at a significant
disadvantage as it is using a non optimised opening; furthermore one that is
relatively old;)

now the same programmers who for years have claimed the above are stating the
exact opposite that for some reason the kingSKR will get an advantage if it uses
another engines opening books which in fact is non optimised for the KING!!

(as far as i know the general.ctg is a non-optimised powerbook which is a
general book not optimised for a particular engine so it should be allowed to be
used with the king any way)

let us therefore test both engines with the same opening books; either another
engines borrowed opening book (which will be optimised for neither engine such
as the fritz.ctg when shredder plays theKing) or something like draw.ctg or the
lunsen book or a power book) this will ensure a level playing field and equal
disadvantages for both engines

that is the only equiatble solution that i can think of given the contraints in
this situation
