I'll try to how to get games at playchess. The mechanism you useexactly depends on whether you have the fritz7 or fritz8 GUI running as a login client. In the fritz8 gui it is easiest because the games are autosaved into a file called "MyInternetKibbitzing.cbh" as you watch them. But in the Fritz7 GUI the observer must menu/file/save <specify a database> of an open game board that he is observing. Now that the technical process of saving the game is explained, you also need to know how to find a game that you want to save. The playchess server is partitioned into rooms. Lets say that you are in the engine room for this example. There is a window pane called games in this and every room. You can even open an extra games pane if you are using the window to view a players list. In the games list, which is sortable by rating of black, rating of white, time started of game, and result of game (eg. 'in progress,' 1-0, 0-1 ) you can choose a game from this window to watch. Select thegame by double clicking on it. Or also by right-clicking and chosing observe. Once the game is open, it can be saved to your hard drive-- (in fritz8 it is saved automatically). In the players window pane in the engine room, one can determine which engine each player has loaded. This is useful if you want to folow the behavior of a particular type of engine. You can select a player by right-clicking on his name and selecting "follow". Then as he plays, you get to observe his games. You can save them as they complete--or in fritz8 they are saved automatically. Hope that is enough info for you to get started. - marc On November 03, 2003 at 07:13:12, David H.
