The costs include those of a TD (tournament director) of a human tournament: travel and lodging expenses for the TD (usually not a competitor himself/herself), rental of the playing hall, and any paperwork required for running the event. Also, a TD for a CC event has to arrange for sufficient electrical power and for telecommunication facilities for participants who can't haul their machinery with them to the event. In addition, a good CC tournament should also have at least a couple of presentations scheduled along with appropriate publicity. I mentioned MIT earlier as a possible site; it may be that they could help with reduced cost lodging and a suitable playing area, particularly if the event were held during a student vacation period.
